   THE ORIGINS OF THE IMRCI

The Institute for Musculoskeletal Research & Clinical Implementation is a transformation of the former Research Department of the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic.

Formed in 1986, the Department was charged with establishing a research base for the College in order to support its educational objectives.

This was achieved by addressing the dual tasks of supporting degree programs and, at the same time, entering into multidisciplinary research collaborations to address national concerns about the growing impact of back pain and other musculoskeletal problems.

By 1999 the role of supporting clinical decision making in a multidisciplinary context had grown considerably and it became recognised that these two roles would be better addressed by separate groups, one of which could concentrate on College faculty development and the other musculoskeletal problems in a wider context. The Institute was established in September 1999 to fill the latter role.
